Under direction, the purpose of this position is to diagnose and resolve hardware/software related problems on computer equipment operating in stand-alone, network, and/or remote environments for the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification provide user support and instruction in maintenance and utilization of software applications in conjunction with equipment. Incumbents perform essential functions as outlined herein according to area of assignment. Performs related work as directed. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Work requires the intermittent installation, moving, and modification to voice system equipment and peripheral components. Due to the varying nature and locations of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with electronics installations and wiring systems. Some tasks include materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.
1. Must be a current BSO employee.
2. Associate's degree with course work emphasis in computer science or closely related field.
3. A+ or MCP certification preferred.
4. Two (2) years progressively skilled experience in troubleshooting hardware and software problems in stand alone and/or networking environments, with the ability to provide end user support and instruction applicable to area of assignment. Such experience should be clearly demonstrated in the initial application or resume.
5. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may substitute for noted requirements. Such training or experience must be clearly documented in the application.

Completed on-line applications must be submitted by midnight on the closing date. Completed paper applications must be received in the Bureau of Human Resources by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date. A resume may accompany a complete application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen.
