Detention Communications Coordinator

Under administrative direction, the purpose of this position is to coordinate and perform the administrative and technical support functions of the communication system within the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Detention. Employees in this classification oversee the vendor obligations as outlined in the agreement between the contractor and the Broward Sheriff's Office. Work includes performing on-going monitoring of revenue and operability of inmate payphone system equipment and revenue generating e-mail server. Position reviews monthly reports, acts as a liaison between the Broward Sheriff's Office and the inmate payphone vendor, oversees and reports on operational status, performs basic operation of the Inmate Call Control System. Position evaluates overall inmate payphone system operations in order to provide recommendations for improved effectiveness and efficiency. Incumbents perform duties as outlined herein according to unit of assignment. Performs related work as directed. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks are performed in a warehouse environment in a designated detention facility where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection.

This position is budgeted for five years. If positions are eliminated by funds being depleted or rescinded, the most recently hired individuals may be notified to resign.
1. High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required. Associates Degree is preferred.
2. Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in a telecommunications environment that includes project management in administrative support duties such as accounting, purchasing, information technology, record keeping and the testing of telephone equipment hardware and software.
3. Proficient computer knowledge in a Windows environment. Such experience should be clearly stated in the initial application.
4. Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance. A Department of Motor Vehicles entire driving history for every state in which a license was held in the past seven (7) years MUST be submitted with application. Driving history search date MUST BE within one month of application receive date.
5. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for noted requirements. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
