Under direction, the purpose of this position is to provide primary problem determination, tracking and resolution for all computer and communications related problems. Employees in this classification provide customer service and support by acting as the central source of contact for all users of Broward Sheriff’s Office computer/communications systems. Work includes installation of laptop and desktop hardware and software. Performs related work as directed. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of heavier objects (50+ pounds).
1. Associate’s degree with course work emphasis in computer science or closely related field: A+ Certification preferred.
2. One (1) year progressively responsible help desk experience in troubleshooting hardware and software problems, with the ability to provide end user support and instruction; experience in laptop installation and repairs. MS Windows and MS Office troubleshooting preferred. (Such experience should be clearly stated on the application.)
3. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for noted requirements. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process varies by position and could last 8 to 10 weeks. Reapplication will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
